F.A.Q. - Frequently Asked Questions
ACTS F.A.Q. #1 - Can I join ACTS this year even if I was a finalist in previous years?
Answer: Yes, you can join ACTS again if you were a previous finalist. Even if you were voted the
Most Popular Contestant, you can still rejoin. Only the top 3 finalists (i.e. Grand Champion, 2nd
Place, 3rd Place) in previous years are NOT allowed to rejoin the competition.
ACTS F.A.Q. #2 - Do I have a better chance of getting into the quarter-finals if I audition live
instead of sending in a video recording audition?
Answer: Yes, your chances are better if you audition live. We are choosing 30+ contestants from the live auditions to enter the quarter-finals. Only up to 10 contestants from the video
recording auditions are chosen. Why you ask? We introduced video recording auditions because of the high demand of contestants outside of the GTA wanting to join the ACTS. This gives them the chance to audition because they cannot travel to the GTA. Also, live auditions are more difficult because you have to face the panel of judges and there is much more pressure. Hence the greater chances of getting into the next round if you audition live.
ACTS F.A.Q. #3 – What languages do I have to sing in?
Answer: You can sing in any language you wish (i.e. English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc…). You do not have to sing in your native language to enter the competition. Although some of the judges on the panel are not of Asian descent, they are not scoring you on whether they can understand your song but on how you perform and convey the song with your vocal and performance skills. In fact, many contestants have been successful in this competition singing in their native tongue. We suggest you sing songs that you feel most comfortable with because the judges can tell if you are struggling with a song because of the language.
ACTS F.A.Q. #4 – Is there a large live audience at the auditions?
Answer: No, the judges are the only people in the audition room that you will have to perform for. You may feel free to have your family and friends join you in the audition room for support if you wish.
ACTS F.A.Q. #5 – How many songs do I have to prepare for the auditions?
Answer: Eligible Contestants will be invited to sing the whole or part of a song in front of judges or designated representatives of the Organizer. Contestants should have two songs prepared and will be asked to sing ACAPELLA without musical accompaniment or backing vocals.
ACTS F.A.Q. #6 – My child would like to enter the competition but he/she does not turn 15 years old until January 1, 2014. Can he/she still enter the competition?
Answer: No, the rules dictate that the individual entering the competition must be between the ages of 15 to 30 by December 31, 2013. Your child will have to wait until 2014 to be eligible to enter the competition.
ACTS F.A.Q. #7 – I am 20% Asian on my mother/father’s side. Can I still enter the competition?
Answer: Yes, you can enter the 2013 ACTS even if you are Asian by a small percentage. We like to encourage multiculturalism in the youth community and celebrate all cultures. Celebrating diversity and talent in all cultures is the key to the success of ACTS.
ACTS F.A.Q. #8 – When will I know whether I made it into the Quarter-Finals? Will I receive a call if I was not successful?
Answer: The audition process is not like American Idol or The Voice where you find out immediately whether you made it into the Quarter-Finals. The Organizer will notify Contestants who have been chosen to advance to the Quarter-finals as soon as reasonably practicable AFTER the Live Open Auditions have been completed (after April 21, 2013). The Organizer shall not be obliged to notify unsuccessful contestants.
